Capturing the Magic

Introduction:

There's something truly enchanting about the journey of motherhood. The anticipation, the glow, and the precious bond between a pregnant mum and her unborn child are moments worth treasuring.

As a photographer, I have discovered so much happiness & joy in capturing these beautiful moments, and creating lasting memories for expectant mothers and their little ones.

In this blog post, I want to share my passion for photographing newborns and pregnant mums, and the magic of composite images that make it look like you are actually seeing the baby in the mum's tummy. It's not a 4D scan, but it is very beautiful.

The Art of Maternity & Newborn Photography:

Newborn photography is an art form that requires not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of the delicate nature of these precious babies. As a photographer, I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment for both the baby and the parents.

I believe in capturing the authentic moments, tender expressions, and tiny details that make each baby unique. From the gentle curl of their fingers to them peacefully asleep on soft blankets, I aim to create a visual story that reflects purity & innocence. I love it!

Pregnancy is a time of transformation, both physically and emotionally. It is a period when a woman's body is nurturing and growing another life within.

Maternity portraits celebrate strength, beauty, and the love that radiates from expectant mothers. I aim to create portraits that capture the natural glow and anticipation that this extraordinary phase creates.

Through the careful use of lighting, composition, and posing, I love to showcase the radiance and profound connection between a mother and her unborn child.

The Magic of Composite Images:

One of the most captivating techniques I have learned through my photography journey is the creation of composite images. These images involve merging separate photographs to create a seamless and imaginative final picture.

The composite image that merges a pregnant mum with an image of her newborn demonstrates an exquisite example of the impact this technique can have. Combining images of the Pregnant mum at a late stage in her pregnancy, with a newborn image, makes it look like the baby is visible in the mother's womb.

Preserving Precious Memories:

Photography has the unique power to freeze moments in time, allowing us to relive them for years to come.

When it comes to photographing newborns and pregnant mums, my goal is to create timeless images that evoke emotion and tell a story. Whether it's capturing the first yawn of a newborn or the serene smile on a mother's face, each image holds a precious memory that will be cherished for generations to come.

Creating composite images requires meticulous planning, attention to detail, and a keen eye for realism.

Do you Provide Digital Images?

Before I have even been booked to do a photo session, I am often asked if I provide digital images . Well, the short answer is no, I don't provide digital images as part of any of my packages. Let me explain why that is.

Why have Photographs Taken to Leave in a Drawer?

When you engage someone to photograph your family, you are paying for their expertise to document and record those precious moments of, and with, your loved ones. Your aim is to have beautiful products to showcase in your home , memories to look back on, and there is no better way to do this, than to have a visual memory to recall that wonderful experience during a particular, precious moment when that image was captured.

The photographer will do a skilled job taking the photos, they will professionally edit images to a high standard, and of course deliver them for printing to their own highly qualified supplier, who is familiar with their work and creates beautiful hand made products.

What will you do with Digital Images?

How often do we put our photographs on a USB stick and just put it in a drawer and forget about it? How often do we get around to having images from these printed? Well, mostly never is the truth!

And when we do want to have any of them printed, we take them to a low cost outlet, print them off and before we know it, we have a not so perfect photo to frame that doesn't in any way look like the digital file you have in your possession. The tones can be off and the colours can be too contrasty, too bright or too dull. We also have to look at the quality of the paper provided at these print out stations, not the best.

If you have ever seen and been impacted in any way by photos that were taken way back in historical times, just think if they had been put on a USB stick. For example, if you search for 100 most influential images of all time, you will see a variety of photographs that have documented specific times or events. The majority of the images would surely be lost to history, and of course to us, because they would not have been on show for all to see and remember their significance. That would have been a great pity and a loss to society, as well as for those who both took and featured in the photographs. Specific historic events would have been a lot less visual to us, therefore, we would not have been able to see or imagine the joyful or tragic impacts and outcomes of some of those very important times in the history of our countries.

We have built up a very positive, long standing relationship with a highly qualified printing supplier, and this means that they provide us with hand made products produced to a high standard and which look amazing hanging on a wall space reserved just for that creation.

That all said, at Reflections we want to encourage you to showcase those exquisite portraits in your home, workplace or office. This means you have something beautiful to look at and reflect on a memorable experience, while it can be a fantastic talking point for family and friends visiting your home.
